My muscles hate me.

I pushed it super hard this week and my muscles have decided to fail me. Biking Wednesday, swimming Thursday and running on Friday. Couldn't get out of bed this morning. Maybe by tonight I'll be able to pull it together for a little yoga. I find that if I switch activities from day to day, I won't get bored. Still not losing a lot of weight, but my muscles are getting pretty toned. It feels great! Now, if I can just stay away from those cookies.....

My First Race

I'm signing up for my first 5K . I'm still way way way slow (13 min miles), however I'm going to sign up so I have a goal and I can push myself a little harder (I really have no idea what I'm doing as far as training goes). My 5K is on Aug 28 (Connor's first football game). I found a new app that I like better than any of the others I've used (so far, I've only used it twice), it has some really great features. It's called Log My Run, it's awesome! They have different training downloads that people can post to it that you can use. I started a 5 week to 5K yesterday.

Yesterday I walked a mile at the track then jogged and walked a little on the second mile. Connor and Sean did some sprints. Sean about killed himself, and even mowed the front yard and the back until Connor took over. When we came home I did 30 min of yoga, 3 sets of 15 girl push ups and 3 sets of crunches 20 straight, 20 to the left and 20 to the right.

I just got back from my 2 mile jog/walk (13 min miles again). I'll get faster, but it's a little discouraging seeing that pace. I just need to remember I'm just starting out and I've never run before, I've always really really really hated it, so I'm doing pretty dern good, I guess! I'm sure I'll do something else today, I just haven't made up my mind yet.

I started sanding Chloe's new bed, it's a pretty good right arm work out!

Good Shoes!

I'm here to say that good fitting shoes make all the difference in the world!!! I've been running in Asics for several months and they have given me no problems at all, but were breaking down. I've had them for over a year and I think they decided they were all done. I tried on some brand new Nike's while I was getting Connor some football stuff and I fell in love, they were so cushy under the ball of my foot, it was heavenly. I thought about it for a few days and bought them online from roadrunnersports.com.
I went right out for a run when they got here and ran for the next 3 days in them. My feet and legs got progressively more sore, then my hips hurt too. The shoes went back (because they have an awesome return policy) and I got some more Asics (if it ain't broke...).
I haven't run in them yet, they just came today and I'm so excited!!!! Jack and Connor just got some new running shoes also (thank you for the lovely sale Big 5). Connor is going to start running, he's playing football now and he's going to have to run and build up his endurance. I'm so excited to have him start running!!

Sean and I took Jack and Chloe with us to the track last weekend and they both ran with us. Jack was rockin' it. He kept up with Sean for about 1/4 of a mile and ran for a 1/2 mile. He did so well, so I happily bought him some running shoes.

Night Swimming

The kids had been asking to go night swimming for awhile now and last night seemed to be the night. We climbed in about 7:30 and swam and swam 'til it got dark. Then, David got the kids out at 9:30 and let me swim by myself. It was awesome!! If you ever get a chance to go swimming by yourself at night, do it do it do it. It's so much fun looking up at the stars and not having to worry about kids or anything else. Plus, I did some great water aerobics and swam about 100 laps. (Not that big of a deal if you knew how small my pool is.)

Oh, my calves!

Yesterday as part of my running training, I did killer (we shall call them) intervals (sprint as long as you can, about 30 sec. for me then walk for about a min or two). I did this for 3 miles. It sucked so goooood! I was sucking wind so hard at about 2.5 miles, I inhaled a little bug, extra protein, so it's all good. Today doing stairs is pretty painful, but a really good painful. Today is mow the lawn day, which I usually include as a workout. I will surely feel those calves mowing. I think I'll also hook up the bike trailer and take the little ones with me on a ride. I love my bike route. I ride down a country road which hooks up to a paved path that goes along the Jordan River and goes under Pioneer Crossing, then I ride Pioneer home. It's so much easier without the kido's, so it's a nice work out.

My proud moment: The day before yesterday (yes, it was Sun. and I needed it so bad, it was so relaxing). I hadn't done anything for two days and I was going a little nutty, being home with sick little Chloe, and it was my week to teach the crazy 9 year olds in our ward. I needed to clear that little head of mine! I jogged for a little more than a mile and a half straight!!!! Never, ever in my life have I been able to do that. I've learned that the trick is keeping my heart rate at about 75-80% of max. It was awesome! I felt so great. Now I'm mixing it up with intervals to build up my speed and endurance. I hope it works!

Thanks for posting guys! It's keeping motivated to kill it! Shannon, you are kickin' it!!!

Hello again hello....

Hey all!
Ok, I'll post about our/my physical activity yesterday. The kids and I drove up to Alta to visit Lauralee and did a 40min walk around the resort/neighborhood. It wasn't too hard, all pretty level, but we found some snow banks to play in, and boulders to climb on. Not the greatest/hardest workout by far, but it was better than nothing!
Let's not forget the laps I was able to swim in Becky's pool last Wed. Really makes me wish I had a pool, I really enjoy that exercise!

That's all for now!

Teri's Great Idea!

So, what do you gals think about posting about our workouts? It'll keep us motivated and give us ideas as to what everyone else is doing to get in good shape! (I'm totally motivated by Teri. She is doing so super awesome.) Anyhow, yesterday I posted a bit. Today I'll add on. I decided to take total advantage of having a husband home with the kids, so I'm doing lots. On top of riding the bike yesterday, I also did 40 minutes of crunches, planks, leg lifts and push ups. You guessed it, I could barely walk by nighttime. This morning when I woke up at 7:30 it was already 80 degrees outside. Blech! No running. (My thighs said thank you.) So, I made all the kids do two sessions of yoga (Namaste) with me. It took just under an hour. All the muscles I didn't hit biking and running, were definitely used today. I really need Sunday as a recuperation day. I'm trying to keep doing different things all the time so I don't get bored. I'm even contemplating pulling out my roller blades from waaayyy back. Keep me posted on your doings so I can add to my list of great ways to get in shape...

I'LL RACE!

I've done been inspired! (New Lazy Boy commercial by Brooke Shields. Funny huh?) Yesterday I went running/walking for 40 minutes and did awesome (if I do say so myself). Today, I biked 8.5 miles. I feel great! I'm also doing tons of toning stuff too. My thighs hurt big time... I'm going to do fabulously well the next six months. You just wait and see.....
