Much better!

I started the week out pretty well! Toast and a hardboiled egg for breakfast, about 1/3 cup of popcorn chicken for lunch, and a ham/broccoli/rice/cheese casserole for dinner. 3 glasses of coke today, 4 glasses of water so far, and 2 mini chocolate bars. (Shellie.. i gave Dudley the rest of my fudge samples from Sweet Aftons last night, I only ever ate the first 2!). Not bad considering!

Also I got some exercise walking all over football field size Walmart two or three times (kept forgetting something that was always on the OTHER side of the store), then Drew and I shoveled snow off the driveway (I have much more driveway to shovel now that I've sold all the boats...), and I chased Drew around the yard for a bit.

So I'm calling today a success! HOW IS EVERYONE ELSE DOING?

Cabin Fever

Cabin Fever, spring fever, bored out of my mind. All I want to eat is sweets, so there is nothing in the house so I won't be tempted. Then you all write about cookies and donuts. You guys are all mean. Love you anyway.

I'm still here!

Alright, alright, I made cookies. Wonderful lovely chocolate chip/ white chocolate chop cookies. They were fabulous! The chocolate melted in my mouth and the ice cold milk washed it all down, so I had to get more! I have been wanting them since I started this diet and some other dessert always came up. (Birthday cake for my niece, doughnuts for the balloon watching). This Friday, the dessert was cookies, cookies, cookies!!! Now, they are all gone and I have to wait until next Friday for my fabulous dessert. (I wonder what it will be.) On the healthy side, I have been doing great the rest of the time. Shakes for lunch with low cal. crackers and cottage cheese and small helpings for dinner. I think I'm doing good. I feel smaller. Well see.....

Where is everyone?

Why do I feel like I'm the only one posting? Huh? Everyone?

Anyway, not really keeping track of the weekend, donuts for breakfast yesterday, bacon and eggs today.. you see how it's going..

I want updates people! Good, bad, ugly... something! :-)

Salad Schmalad...

So here we are on day 4 of my salad week, and I have yet to eat one. Oh well, I'm not really caring at the moment because I made an AWESOME turkey pot pie for dinner. I succeeded in making something good! WHHHOooo HOOOOooooo! I don't think I ever updated, but the turkey linguine thingy was oookkkaayyy... which means nobody ate left overs the next two days but the dogs. (I only know how to cook for 12). The dogs loved it! The turkey just wasn't the right flavor for the dish. Grilled chicken would have been much better.

But the Pot Pie! Now that is another story! I used this recipe:
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/bobby-flay/turkey-pot-pie-with-sage-crust-recipe/index.html
Substituting potato's for turnips, onions for shallots and leeks, and my home dried herbs for fresh ones (couldn't bring myself to pay $3 a pack for fresh at the store when I have them in my yard all summer...).
I highly recommend this recipe. If I can make it, anyone can make it! And oh so yummy! Dudley even said it was the best pot pie he's ever had! Drew and I made 'bread cookies' out of the leftover crust.. I baked 'em along with the pot pie & we dipped them in the gravy while eating.

So, I may have gained back some of that lost weight tonight. My pants still have a belt on them, but are feeling a little tighter....

Salad tomorrow! (always tomorrow, never today...)

No weigh in this week...

It sounds reasonable in my head, but really I'm a total coward. It's the time of the month and I always weigh more that lovely week, so I'm skipping weigh in 'til next week. Reasonable or cowardly? I've been disappointed so much the past year, I don't want to continue being disappointed especially when I am trying so hard. So, I have one more week to be totally awesome (which y'know I almost always am) then I get to stand on the scale and prove it!! But, tomorrow I'm making a big 'ol batch of cookies....

progress?

Ok.. so I told you how I WAS GOING TO EAT A SALAD yesterday, right? Well apparently I can't tell the truth... Douglas, Drew, and I had a beef stick, cheese & cracker snack around 4pm which basically killed dinner. Everyone got random items at some point during the evening to eat. I actually didn't eat again until 10:30pm, I was lying in bed and my stomach decided to do one of those "FEED ME NOW OR YOU'RE GOING TO BE UP ALL NIGHT" cramp and rumblings.. So I went for a quickie peanut butter sandwich and water!
So for today, I'll make it a goal to eat a salad, but I'm done promising.

HOWEVER.. as I got dressed this morning, I pulled on 3 different pairs of pants, fresh out of the wash, and they were all LOOSE! I finally gave up at pair 3 and put a belt on! That my friends is how I judge weight loss.. when your clothes try to fall off your body! Whooo hooo! I have NO idea what my current weight actually is, or what it was when we started all this. I just have a size of clothing I want to get into... gonna have to try some of my smaller pants. Hope I'm not dissapointed!

argh

Two, yes, count them two hamburgers for lunch...and 3 bullets for dinner. No exercise yet this week. Argh...I'm starting karate next week, so at least exercise should go up...cause all I need is the thought of myself red-cheeked and uncoordinated in front of a full length mirror and several men I don't know to get me motivated! Hey...wait a second...

So far.. no salad. :>(

Really.. I mean Really. I bought 3 heads of romain lettuce to get me through my salad week. Have I yet to open the bag?
Yesterday was good up until dinner. I had a yogurt and banana for breakfast. Scrambled eggs and toast sandwich for lunch. Even my Coke intake was low.. I was completely out! Hard to drink the stuff when it's not in the house! (I of course remedied that problem at the grocery store later...). So morning, noon, afternoon was great! Then we ordered pizza for dinner. (I HAD been planning on salads! Even hard boiled some eggs in anticipation!). We haven't had pizza for at least 4 months, so I partook. And it was ok.. not REALLY good, but I guess that's what you get for using the 'special' pricing pizza on the menu...

Anyway, TODAY I WILL EAT A SALAD! REALLY! I MEAN IT!

And I have got to go out and get Drew to run around at least.. I'm soooo sick of the bedtime fighting! Up, down, crying, whining, playing, rowdy, bouncing off walls, yelling, threatening, finally caving and letting him fall asleep in our bed, moving him to his bed, having him wake up and come back to our bed, moving him back to his bed, having him wake up crying trying to get in bed with Douglas, re-situating Douglas to make room for Drew, having Drew end up back in our bed AGAIN this morning! OMG! I really wish they made deeper cribs that he couldn't climb out of! I might be building something soon! (Breathing hard after all this rambling...does that count as exercise?)

So, goal is to run Drew's butt off today so he crashes tonight! Trick will be not letting him take a nap......wish me luck!

temptation resisted...barely

I walked into Sweet Aftons at Gardener Village yesterday and the smell caused temptation #1. The nice lady at the countered smiled and said "fudge samples for everyone! What do you want?" Lexi chose orange dreamsicle, plopped it in her mouth and said "that's so good" so I got one for Drew...he didn't want it...enter temptation #2. I stand there holding said piece as the woman (let's call her satan) asks what I would like. Temptation #3. I hand the piece to Lexi, tell satan "no thanks" and head towards the suckers with the little ones...then sneaks up temptation #4. I bought a sample bag of fudge for the kids for FHE. Do you know how hard it is to cut 14 little pieces of fudge into four bite size pieces each and not try any???? Well, now I do. It was very sad...I had to cook a tortilla to compensate...I'll probably loose weight about the same time as I stop compensating...:)

I did get cheesecake for my birthday dinner! It was homemade by Raylene...super dooper yum!

I exercise 3 times last week...shooting for 4 this week...at this rate summer (and swimsuits) are going to come too fast....

I think I'm doing good...

Over last weeks four day weekend, I went a little overboard with the food. A few Oreo's, a little bowl of ice cream, pizza... You get the picture. Then, I got sick on Thursday. No exercising. So, on Friday I opted out of weighing myself. (I know, ME!) But, since I didn't do all that well, I figured it would just disappoint me and I would be depressed. The big weigh in is THIS Friday. Yikes. So, I am back to doing super awesome! Exercise every morning, 1200 - 1300 calorie days, 70-80 oz of water a day, and I am even going to bed early and getting 8 to 9 hours of sleep a night. On my first weigh in I had dropped 3 lbs. Wish me luck for my second. Is it silly to get nervous over this??

Monday monday...la la...la la la la...

Alrighty! Starting a new week already! Did pretty well this weekend all goodies considering...(actually didn't have much other than fig newtons in the house...and those are somewhat good for you!). And got SOME exercise by walking to and from church on Sunday! Although we did walk at Drew's pace, so no real heart rate increase, but muscles got stretched!

Today I met up with Shellie at RC Willey outlet, she bought a groovy new bookshelf which we hauled to her house on top of my Rover... I got some exercise by helping load it, then unload it and help carry it downstairs at Shellie's. Then we headed to Pine Needles where I got to fight Drew on his leash some more (RC Willey's was the beginning of the fight).. which was enough to wear me out for a bit. So exercise ok.. food... well, whaddaya say? Pop tarts for breakfast, chicken nugget happy meal for lunch.. hmmm. Tonight is the night for the chicken/turkey linguine..will let you know how it turns out!

Back to salads tomorrow!

Saturday, January 22, 2011

Oh yeah... weekends are free right?

Wow.. slept in until 9am this morning! I can totally tell the difference! I took the kids to Lowe's build and grow at 10, ran to the store, then home to cook crepes (aka bullets) for brunch! I know.. very low in calories... all the sugar, whipped cream, canned cherries....ya baby!
Then I did even better for lunch, grilled cheese, grapes, and a slice of ham! Can't get much better than this! Until tonight that is... I'm making Chicken Linguine Carbonara for dinner, substituting chicken with deep fried turkey that Dudley is working on as I type this, it has heavy cream in it too....and bacon...mmmmmm. (see the recipe here: http://cook.momsneedtoknow.com/chicken-linguine-carbonara/) Wow. What a stellar taste bud day! And I wonder why I'm not losing weight?

I did spend 2 1/2 hours scrubbing my kitchen cabinets and floors on my hands and knees today! That counts as exercise right? Maybe not enough to work off the comfort foods from the day, but better than nuthin! My kitchen hasn't been this clean since I moved in!

Good Joy????

I meant good job, but I kind of like the joy part.

Same old, same old

I am still down the original 4, but I haven't been trying very hard. I ate a couple of slim fast dinners that did not agree with me. I think the preservatives or something are not good for me. I had a day of only foods I prepared and I feel a lot better. After not eating anything prepared for so long, because of Lee, I must have lost my tolerance. Oh well. It is better for you anyway. I have been out in the yard, trimming roses and picking up branches. That is my exercise. Lots of up and down. Good joy everyone.

Soooooo Tired!

I totally suck the last part of this week... Drew has been keeping me up late, in the middle of the night and getting up pretty early. He then runs me ragged all day with no naps. I'm so tired I don't think about eating until I'm literally shaking from hunger!

I did great at the beginning of the week, pretty much ate EVERY vegetable in the house (literally.. there were a few sad looking baby carrots in my crisper until today.. very sad), which is good, until you have to wait for payday to buy more... however I did keep dinners as healthy as possible, Salmon, rice and canned green beans last night for example. Just got home from grocery shopping and now have tons of veggies again.. something to look forward to!

I really am going to try to get on my wii fit soon.. it will weigh me and keep me informed whether I like it or not!

I REALLY need to dig out my body for life book!

Feeling So Good

Today I have lots more energy than normal. I actually did 35 min of our P90X yoga this morning! I hope that it's because of the water I'm drinking and the fruits and veggies I'm eating, and not the cycle thing like Shannon just said.

It's Sean's day off today. We had to go to the scouting store in Sandy... at lunch time. We stopped at Olympus Burger for some Chicken Souvlaki Platters. YUM! I ate half and I'll have the other half for dinner. I'm glad I did yoga this morning, so I have enough points to eat it all :o). No treats today!

I looked up how much water I'm supposed to be drinking (google), it's between 8-10 c. a day depending on my activity level (you enter in your height and weight and gender). Weight Watchers says for sure 6, but I didn't know how many oz. a "glass" is. So... to think that 3 c. is a good day for me. No wonder I've always been dehydrated, I knew I was supposed to drink 8 a day, but I just didn't think about it through the day. I felt so good for weeks after I got out of the hospital, probably because I was hydrated, and I was keeping it up! I would sweat! and I was always very warm... so weird. Any who, I'm always going to try very hard to get my 8-10 c. a day, I think for me it makes a world of difference.

I'm down 6 lbs. so far. I had a whole paradigm shift yesterday with starting weight watchers, I made an actual goal, a weight and a date. It got me excited and gave me a boost I think. So as Steff says, I'm going to "keep on keepin' on!"

The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

Don't you find our extreme weight loss plans ebb and flow according to the time of the month?? I get so energetic and happy and I eat healthy right after my pd. Right before, I only want to lay around and watch movies while I'm eating ice cream, chocolate and cake. Anybody like me??

To clarify

By "no dessert" I mean besides my one allotted...just for clarification!
Last week, my eating went great (no dessert and not too much food) but my exercise didn't. This week I've done great exercising, but I've eating enough for two...no maybe three. Still no dessert (except for licking the maple frosting off my finger from Lexi's donut...small but satisfying)...next week I'm shooting for both!

New Plan

I decided to start doing Weight Watchers today. I haven't really been tracking anything, I was just trying to eat better. I was eating a lot more snack food than was wise. Soooo, new plan! I've done WW before, way back when and it works great for me. If anyone else is interested, I've seen all of the books and everything for sale on Ebay. I think it's awesome.

I had a yummy lunch. I cooked about 2 c. of spinach and some onions in the skillet (in a little olive oil). Then I added 1 slice of turkey, chopped, and some diced tomatoes (really, lots of tomatoes) and some eggs; one whole egg and an egg white. I scrambled it all together and topped it with some mango salsa. Super YUM! I'm over on my veggies today. Hooray!!!

Pyramid Tracker hint...

So I'm thinking I'm totally awesome today, because I had toast and scrambled eggs for breakfast.. pretty much skipped lunch (was still full from breakfast), I did cave and have a few (6) of the new oreo's that have a chocolate cookie side and a vanilla cookie side....(not sure if I love them? But they went down fast!), then I made MINESTRONE soup for dinner! Talk about veggie packed! Cabbage, carrots, celery, zucchini, kidney beans, tomatoes, potato's, and a few meatballs... sounds healthy eh?
The tracker has an option for 'homemade minestrone'.. i chose that... big mistake. My calorie intake was over by 700 all of a sudden & my sodium intake by 2000! I DON'T THINK SO! So I entered in the ingredients one at a time.. other than the fresh and dried-by-me herbs.. really they can't contain many calories, can they? Much better results.

So.. moral of the story.. enter your foods in individually if you want correct tracking...

Umm, bad weekend....

I did so awesome the first week. But then I wanted salt and sugar this weekend. It was a three day weekend and we played. Then on Saturday we went to the balloon festival at 7:30am. We were all freezing, so we made hot chocolate and blueberry waffles with Cool Whip. Then Kevan and Carolyn brought donuts. I only had a little (1/2 a donut). But, I also had hot chocolate, chocolate milk and a waffle. I truly felt sick afterward. You can't go a week without sugar and then eat that much altogether. Blech... Yesterday, no sweets, but I had nachos and mixed nuts. I feel icky. I am going to eat soooo good this week to make up for it. I already started with toast and grapefruit for breakfast.

WE CAN DO THIS!!!

Monday, January 17, 2011

It's gonna be a long year...

Okay, sorry it's been awhile. Life gets crazy! So,I have not cheated, even when Lexi offered me a Rolo from her stocking (I was close). I've been adding tons of veges and fruits to our meals and have found that we go through a surprisingly huge amount of spinach (two costco containers in just over a week)

I've only had one meal where I went way over-board in quantity.

Last night, my dessert of the week (Oreo brownie sundaes with carmel -thanks Hannah) was awesome! Now I need to quickly feed the leftovers to my kids so I loose the temptation.

I don't have a scale, but Matt says I'm looking smaller! Whoo hoo! Only 11 more months to go.

Shopping; No Better Motivator

I went shopping with some friends over the weekend. I really don't think there is a better motivator for me, finding some super cute pants on sale. I just really don't want to buy anything until I get to where I would like to be.

Yesterday Sean made meatloaf, green beans, and noodles for lunch. I had a small portion of meatloaf and green beans, no noodles. Dinner we had a chef salad. Today, for breakfast I had Kashi Go Lean oatmeal (have you had it? sooo yummy) with a little added honey and a splash of milk. Lunch we had another chef salad because it was so delish.

The weekend was awesome... lol. I made tons of cinnamon rolls, and of course ate some. We went to Stacie's and Kyle made some of his yummy deliciousness, that I can never just eat a little of. At least at my weigh in this morning, I didn't gain anything, but didn't lose anything either.

New week!

Ok.. time to get back in the eating right saddle again!

The donuts from the weekend are long gone...Dude is at work...time to plan some healthy meals!

I do have a bunch of pulled pork leftover from the weekend (sooooo glad I made it.. I was in bed all day with vertigo... could barely stand up/walk for the first half of the day... so not having to cook was a blessing!) I'm thinking chimi's tonight? I know.. deep fried, but I'll use canola oil.. better for you...

Anyway.. time to focus on veggies again! Happy Monday everyone!

Free Day...

I did well yesterday, didn't eat much since the cold is still kicking my butt.. however Dudley brought home a dozen My Sugar's donuts last night... I'm officially declaring Saturday a 'Free Day'! (Mostly because I started the day out with 2 donuts and a glass of Coke... don't want to feel guilty or anything...)
Have a lovely weekend all!

Down, down, down

Ha! I am down 4lbs. I have been going up and down, but this is real. It has been there for three days. I am trying to stretch in the mornings when I have energy. It helps not tending kids. I had to make cookies to take to a 99 year old lady in the ward. I am exercising extreme restraint not to eat more than one. Hope I keep going.

Cramps

Cramps today, which calls for a donut or two AND no exercise. One step forward two steps back.

P.S. I listed our family blogs on the bottom of the side bar, add any you like.

My first weigh in!

Okay, I'm so bad at checking my weight every single day that David hid the scale until this morning. I stripped down to my undies and exhaled completely and....... 2lbs! It doesn't seem like much, but it is the lowest I have weighed in just over two years! I figure if I can keep going at this rate, I will be at my goal weight by the end of March. (Swimsuit time!) Well, not quite, but close. It gives me a few weeks before swimsuit season, in case I don't quite get there in 10 weeks. I've ironed out the kinks, found what I like to eat and I believe I can stick with it for at least 10 weeks. I can't wait to wear my skinny clothes!!!!

Thursday, January 13, 2011

Ha! I exercised!

Ok.. so I managed to walk to the school to pick Douglas up today, and I threw Drew in the stroller and 4-wheeled it through the snowy sidewalks, so I got some arm workout too! And the funniest thing... Drew fell asleep in it on the way home! Yeah! We got a nap today! The stroller was NOT riding smooth over the snow, but Drew apparently was rocked to sleep by the motion...

Food was pretty good today, the whole cold thing is killing the appetite.. something about swallowing so much goo....

Anyway, keep on keeping on!

Success!

I weighed Monday, it was my 1st week weight check. I'd lost 2 lbs, and I weighed this morning cause I was just curious, and I was down another 2. Yippee!!!

I haven't been doing well on the exercise part, other than just going up and down stairs a million times a day, regular old house work, and chasing after these little ones. I really want to do better, I just need to find a time of day I can do it without Chloe hanging on my legs. I tried doing Yoga the other day and I got two poses in before Chloe came to help. After I turned it off, she got up and started doing some sweet poses, it was cute.

Eating: I'm doing alright. I'm still having some treats, but I'm being lots more mindful of my "5 a day". Shannon's Smoothie really helps with that. Yesterday we ate our first pomegranate (no one but Sean has had one before). I had to look up on You Tube how to eat them, I had no idea! I'm glad I did. It was quite delish, so for dinner we had spaghetti with meatballs and pomegranate, lol, awesome!!! I've been eating salads, with dried cranberries and sunflower seeds - double yum. I'm snacking on almonds when I need a little snack, or apples.

Next week I'm going to do better in the exercise dept!

Not too great today....

I had a pb sandwich for lunch today and pizza for dinner which totally blew my calorie limit. Didn't think I'd gone over so much. Sigh.. Promise I'll do better tomorrow. At least I did weights this morning right? I might have to do double exercising to make up for today. Hate that....

Not too bad...

Ok, so I woke up with a full blown head cold (AGAIN! Really... will this ever go away?)... and had great intentions this morning of making a crock pot soup to help ease the cold....then I looked at the clock and it was 3pm! How did that happen? I guess when your head is so stuffy it's easy to just float along all plugged up, not paying attention to the world around you... So peanut butter sandwich for a late lunch, and salad for dinner.
My pyramid would have rocked today, but I did run to the store for more head cold medicine this morning.. and Drew INSISTED on having french fries (all his fault ya know...), so I of course had to get a ham, egg, and cheese breakfast toaster... and a coke.. you know, to make it a combo meal and therefore a better deal, right?
Oh yeah, don't forget the sugar cookies that keep lurking up out of the tupperware box at me... I think I kept it down to 3 of those today.... They'd better be gone soon, not helping me out any.
Anywho.. overall I went about 100 calories over my recommended, but I got smiley faces on all food groups! That's a first!

Anyone want a sugar cookie?

Tuesday, January 11, 2011

uggghhhh....

Oh dear... You know if you make sugar cookies for your kids, you're very likely to eat some yourself? I've um had um about um 4 cookies today.... um yeah.. I'm going to have to eat veggies and fruit for dinner to redeem myself...

So moral of the story... DON'T MAKE YOUR KIDS TREATS! Make 'em suffer along with you!

Evil laugh...ha ha ha ha ha....
I did good yesterday. I ate a salad for lunch and I found some steaks in the freezer that someone had left here probably from the 4th of July. So good. I also had beans with the steak, so all bases are covered. I lost 3 lbs. Now I am at the original 3 lbs, after eating all the fudge left from Christmas. No excuses now. I am eating lots of veggies, veggies, veggies, you get the picture.

Doing Pretty Good!

So, on Friday I broke down and had a little slice of cheesecake. But, it was only 5 bites and I still stayed in my calorie range! I've decided it's too hard to only have sugar once a week, so I can have more, but scale it waaay back. For instance, I allow myself one mini candy per day. Like: one rolo, 3 whoppers, or 1 mini Hershey candy. It's working great. I get a little treat and still stay well within my calorie limit.
I also found a super yummy restaurant meal that is under 500 calories. The Applebee's peppercorn steak comes with 3 little red potatoes and steamed veggies. It was so yummy, I wanted to back the next day and get it again. So, next time you go out to dinner.......

I'm sticking with the exercises too! I get to weigh myself on Friday, so cross your fingers for me!!!
It's Monday! Ready...set...go! Exercised, oatmeal, and scrambled eggs this morning, but 2 tortillas, and a Mcdonalds hamburger for lunch...argh. No sugar though!

Weekends Suck!

Ok.. so I say that weekends just don't count unless you want them too! I actually did great on Saturday, but I didn't even pretend to keep track on Sunday. Although the guy who bought our boat came to pick it up, and Dudley and I spent about 2 hours cleaning snow off of it, hauling various things, then cleaning up the snow that was under it... so I actually did get some pretty good exercise yesterday.
This morning I had to take Douglas to the Dr. for possible strep, got a prescription & while at the store got some valentine candy hearts, so you know that means we had to come home and make sugar cookies... I haven't had a cookie, but did consume my fair share of dough.... oh well. Will eat a salad for lunch!

Keep on keepin' on!

Eeeek

I did so bad the last half of the week and the weekend, it's not even worth mentioning. So we start again, right here right now. I'm off to drink 2 cups of water!

Saturday, January 8, 2011

Salad Salad Salad

So I'm doing awesome today! And it's even the weekend! I had 2 medium pancakes this morning, and a huge ol' salad for lunch! Lettuce, carrots, celery, cucumber, ham, HB eggs, cheese, and olives! And NO dressing! Ha ha.. I've met my veggie requirements for at least 2 days! Now to get some grains and fruit in there...

It gets easier when you use the pyramid tracker consistently!

Up and Down

I did so good Wednesday. I ate salad, chicken and veggies. I lost 3 lbs, then I felt sick yesterday, so I ate some ice cream to make my stomach feel better. Up 2 lbs. I am doing better today. I hope to do exercises, but so far I am only doing stretches. Better than nothing. Keep up the good work.

Too high on carbs

So, last night I dreamed that I ate the world's largest marshmallow........ I did have a dream that I was the size of the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man. Hmmm, what does that mean?
According to the food tracker, I am way under what I should be on calories, but over on my carbs. and protein. I am surprised how high the carb count is with the lower overall calories. In my mind I was not eating many carbs at all. The pyramid tracker is really helping me figure out what is best to eat. I did end up adding individual ingredients for my vegetable soup, cuz it assumes the sodium is much much higher than it was. It takes a while, but if you add foods to your favorites, like Steff said, it is much quicker later.
On the bright side, my energy level is starting to go up after only 3 days! Yesterday, I went running and it felt great! My knees just aren't holding up to my increased energy, so today I'm back on the bike. (Weights are not an option, I still can't lift my arms.)
I do feel like I've totally flushed out my system with all the water I've been drinking. I feel like I'm pregnant again, running to the bathroom 10 times a day.
If anyone has a great low carb, low protein, low calorie, high fiber, yummy dinner menu. Please let me know!!

I'm the caboose

Hopefully I'll loose a bit of my caboose before long. I've been informed that my post is long overdue (thanks Steff!) but it's just the type of motivation I'm going to need to get going! Sooooo.. for all of you out there that have been holding your breath waiting, and waiting, and waiting.. here it is MY PLAN:

I can do a great job during the week of being good... no snacks, no sugar, much healthier eating if I can reward myself at the end of the week. I did this on my mission, it worked wonderfully... of course.. all of the walking I did helped too. SO.... I'm going to try that. I get Friday night off. I don't mean that I get to gorge myself on anything and everything, but if I do want french fries.. I can have them .. guilt free.

Also, exercise ... yup need that... harder while it's cold.. so I've decided that I am going to go up and down my stairs 50 times a day... yes 50... I think at least I could get all the upstairs stuff up and the downstairs stuff down if I do that EVERY DAY... HA... Ha Ha.... but I do like stairmasters, so maybe this will be the same. At the first sign of warmer weather.... you know, when your lungs don't turn to ice... me and the poor little kiddos (D and Gubbs) are going to walk to school! 2 miles ..uphill... both ways...

So, this starts tomorrow.. or maybe in a few days.. I have an unwelcome visitor do deal with first...

Much Better!

Whoo Hooo! I just finished dinner, entered all my food into the tracker and Bazinga! I'm under my calorie goal by about 300! Ta da! Now if I can make it to bedtime without snacking... although I am under on fruit still, so I could get away with a banana later....

Now, to get some exercise other than talking on the phone.....
So, I'm officially starting on Monday, so this week I'm working on eating all of my stocking candy, my cookies that I got from my "secret santa" kids for the month of December and finishing off all the treats that are going to temp me come Monday...so far, I'm doing awesome! I think I've had more sugar these past two days than the whole month of December!

Once I inhale my birthday cake, I'll be READY for Monday and the whole year to start!

Oh, and exercise? Does jumping up on the garbage can lid until you get it to smash down, and pinch your thigh thus giving you a bruise the size of Jordan's head count? If so...I'm totally there! (Maybe I'll send pictures :) )

On the plus side, spinach salad with tomatoes, avacados and balsamic vinigerette (less fat) for lunch with only two tortillas on the side! Oatmeal for breakfast with one Table spoon brown suger (smashed flat) Boo Yah!

Wow.. thought I was doing good...

So yesterday I thought I was doing awesome. I tracked everything in the food tracker, looked at the nutrients I was getting, what I was lacking, and tried to focus on eating the missing stuff like veggies.. Then right before I made dinner I clicked on the link that shows how many calories you have eaten vs. what they calculate you should eat. Surprise! I was already over my calorie limit by about 100! Holy Crap! And that was without dinner! Ack! Also I'd only had 2 glasses of Coke (significant decrease for me) and had INCREASED my water to 5 glasses! Sheesh! So after a little lookie loo at the food I'd entered, I'm hoping the calculation was incorrect on the crackers I had for lunch. I had these new Town House Flatbread Crisps with string cheese and beef stick for lunch (nummy nummy crackers by the way).. they of course weren't in the database, so I chose club crackers instead. Sure enough, the calorie intake on the flatbread is 70 for 6 crackers, the club is 140 for 6 crackers. I ate about 10 crackers, so my calorie intake was off by about 113. Better, but still not enough to give me room to eat dinner! At that point I threw my arms in the air and ate a patty melt and french fries. Totally shot the day..

Today's goal is to eat veggies! And to look at the calorie intake closer and more often!

So lesson... watch carefully what you input on the food tracker. It might make you look really bad! Learn how to juggle what you enter in, to make it close to what you're really eating...

I'm so awesome!!!

I had three sticks of celery yesterday! One for breakfast, one for lunch and one for dinner!! Ha ha ha. Just kiddin' But, I am doing great. Sugar hasn't touched my lips since the cheesecake episode the other morning. I am using the pyramid tracker website and I believe it is a little off, but it helps a ton. I do feel like I am starving most of the time, cuz my body is learning how to cut out carbs and doesn't have the instant energy anymore. But, I've done this before and it should only take a week for my energy levels to come back on my new super restricted diet. I rode my stationary bike for 20 min. and took down all my Christmas stuff. Then lugged it all upstairs to the storage room. (19 steps for each trip!) Then did 30 min. weights the next day. (Can't lift my arms.) By the way, has anybody entered in their physical activity on the pyramid tracker? Soooo funny. I can enter in talking on the phone, carrying in groceries, bathing a child and cooking Indian bread on the outside stove!!! (Since, we all do that regularly.) Anyhoo..... I really want to see a video of Teri doing Zumba at 3am to confirm my mental picture.

Soon to be skinny,
Shannon

Day 2 and 3

Yesterday I did much better than today, but today isn't over so maybe I can make up for some of it ;o). I ended up Zumbaing for an hour, it was really fun and I'm officially a little... "special" (I was going to say retarded, but that's not very politically correct) at it. I'm not as sore today as I thought I'd be, but I did sweat, so that's good. Eating was pretty good. I had wheat toast for breakfast, Shannon's Smoothie for snack, a slice of cheese pizza (yes, it was nummy) w/a little salad for lunch, and dinner was a sweet pork burrito (we didn't get our fill at Stacie's this weekend) I loaded it with veggies and used Fage (greek yogurt) instead of sour cream. I also made Steff's rice, because it has butter in it, I was trying to figure how to make it a little more healthy (because I really really like butter), so I used short grain brown rice, and it was really good.

Today... oh today... I started out really good. I had Special K for breakfast, I even measured 3/4 cup for one serving. I had an orange and a half and (this is where it starts to go downhill) two pieces of french bread (with butter). For lunch I had two sweet pork burritos, not exactly my smaller portions goal. I had to go to Wal Mart to get diapers and I picked up treats for our primary class for Sun. I got something that our whole family would like, a big bag of fun size Twix. I ate 4 on the way home, AND I went to the drive thu at Del Taco and got a Macho Mr. Pibb, because the 5.5 hours of sleep a night for the last several nights isn't totally agreeing with me. I have a giant headache now (the kind that makes you pretty sure you'll puke) I think from the caffeine??? I think for dinner I will have Shannon's Smoothie. Exercise: When I was up at 3:30 this morning I thought I would just work out then, because I wouldn't have any little kids asking me for something 4 times while I'm exercising or have a baby hugging my legs... but I thought and thought that it's important to get enough sleep too, so I should try that. I have yet to exercise, and likely will not because I feel blech. Today was not so awesome, but I got all my fruits and veggies in today!

I watched the season premier of Biggest Loser last night. I love that show. The contestants are so inspiring to me. At the finale for last season I told Sean that I'm going to start when the new season starts, I could be in kickin' shape by the finale. I'm going to have to kick it up a notch, I think. Speaking of biggest loser, Do you guys have the "Biggest Loser for Families Cookbook"? We really like it, we've only tried one recipe in there that we didn't really care for. I highly recommend it.

Keepin On...

Ok, so yesterday sucked, but I'm back on the wagon today! I think I was too tired after pulling Christmas stuff down, rearranging and deep cleaning front room, then pulling Drew's crib down, putting car bed back up, then rearranging and deep cleaning his room.. and going to the dentist between it all (this all happened monday), to give a hoot yesterday. But after actually getting some sleep last night, today I can focus again! So I've been doing well food and cutting back on coke wise today.
You all should really go play with the Pyramid tracker web site.... it takes a bit of time to get used to it, but once you get it going it will analyze what foods you've overdone and what you need to eat to maintain balance etc. Tip: in the input foods section, save most of your stuff to 'frequently used' to find them easier in the future. Also, you may have to play around with some foods.. like I made Tc's cream cheese potato soup last night, would have to enter the ingredients separately to get it to calculate correctly. Or another example, they don't have string cheese as a food.. so you enter mozzarella then choose the cubic inch portion, quantity of 5.
Anywho, I'm excited that everyone is responding so well! (Stacie!)

Keep it up!

Super Yummy Health Drink

I have no idea what this is called, but here is the "recipe" Teri mentioned.

1 handful fresh spinach
1/2 c berries (frozen or fresh)
1/2 banana
1 -2 cups fat free milk
For protein I add either:
1 scoop protein powder or
1 heaping Tablespoon of Faya Greek Yogurt

Blend in blender and drink up.
I use this for a snack or to replace my lunch. Yummy!
So I haven't started the no sugar thing til after my birthday...but I'm planning on working out tonight (my buns are soooo sore today!) I bought case lot sale stuff at Harmon's today and brought it downstairs...does that count?

Not Today

I have been too busy cleaning to worry about dieting. Lee helped me learn to blog. Better luck tomorrow.

Have we made this a private blog? password only log in?

Dad suggested adding a monthly index in the right column. He can help if you need it.

Not Tooooooo bad

I didn't do too shabby yesterday. I did have a bite size snickers and about 6 peanut M&M's. However, I did get all of my fruits and veggies. I ate Special K Pecans & Cinnamon for breakfast. For lunch I called Shannon and got her awesome recipe for her fruit smoothie (I put too much ice in though because it was too watered down, todays was delish though), I ate an orange for a snack and dinner was spaghetti w/ meatballs and a glass of milk. I picked up my Zumba for Kinect and started the tutorial last night, so I got my 30 min of exercise in... Holy Moly, Zumba gets your heart pumping. I'm glad that I did it in the privacy of my own family room and not in a class with a bunch of people, yikes... Maybe I'll catch on, it's way fun though. Yay for the first day!!!

Grandma's Plan

You all have talked me into it. I will forgo chocolate except in dire straits. I will exercise everyday I don't have Seth's kids. Having them is as good as exercise and I will eat more veggies. I love them anyway, so that won't be a problem. I have already cut out desserts, except fudge for the holiday.
I too suck.. I had an Hostess old fashioned doughnut for breakfast and some Dr. Pepper.. in my defense I was up until 11pm with Drew, then Dudley didn't sleep AT ALL last night, so by the time 7am rolled around I'm still exhausted! So I grabbed the sugar on the counter.. easy out. Nothing but good food the rest of the day!

Day 1!!

Okay! So, for breakfast I had a bowl of Total and a piece of cheesecake! What!? you say! Cheesecake! Yes, it was yummy too. Because I was too full to eat dessert as part of my birthday dinner, I skipped the dessert. So.... last night I had cheesecake for my birthday dessert. Carolyn was so nice as to make it for me, I decided not to offend her. So I ate another piece for breakfast. HAHAHAHAHA! But, the fun stops now. JK. As of today, I am writing down everything from what I eat to how often I exercise. Watch me start wasting away......

Our Tiny Hiney's: Shellie's goal...

Our Tiny Hiney's: Shellie's goal...: "Shellie posted this as a comment to my 1st post.. I'm re-posting it so all can see it easier! Shellie said... All right girls....here we ..."

Shannon's Approach

Over the last 6 - 8 months, I have tried lots and lots of plans. I have exercised 5 days a week, cut my meals in half, stopped eating after 6pm and have doubled my water intake. I have lost about 5 pounds in 6 months. It's NOT working fast enough. So, I'm cranking it up.

1- I will do 20+ minutes of cardiovascular exercise 3-4 days a week.
2- I will weight lift 2-3 days a week.
3- One dessert per week. No sugar! (Yes, that means chocolate, jam, most cereal, etc....) Sigh!
4- The only breads and pastas will be whole grain and not very much of it.
5- Lots and lots of water, vegetables, and fruits.
6- I will eat more fish, chicken and turkey.
7- My portion size will be cut down about 1/3.
8- My protein intake will also be high in my list, since I tend to not eat much at all.

I will both weigh myself and take my measurements only once per week. NOT DAILY! I obsess over the daily changes..

My goal is to lose 25lbs by July. I want to look awesome for the summer.

Just think how skinny and physically fit we will all be when we see each other next! I'm so excited. (I hope the excitement stays.)

Steff's Goal/Plan of attack...

Ok,
I've been using the food pyramid tracker for the past 2 days and already I've eaten 2 plates of raw veggies when in snack mode.. just because I could see that I was at 0% on veggies for the day! That's gotta be better than the very tempting lofthouse sugar cookies in my kitchen!

So my plan includes:
1- using that tracker every day I possibly can!

2-I'm going to try to cut out sweets (try buying less of them!) to maybe a small item each day (i.e. a piece of fudge.. or 1 mini candy bar).. just to keep that sweet tooth from becoming overwhelming!

3-exercise! exercise! Take walks! Use my Wii fit! Run down hills after my sledding babies! Etc.!

4-Quit drinking Coke? I know I should.. but I love me my Coke, so I'm not 100% committed yet... will at least cut down on them dramatically.

5-Eat more veggies, beans, and grains! Oh and proteins and dairy! Yeah!

Ok.. that's got me started. I can always add more bright ideas later!

Thanks for the even cuter/funnier name Shellie! And thanks for updating and organizing the blog Teri! We all have a lot to learn about this blogging thing!
Also, I don't care if the whole world can see the blog.. that way we can give the address to friends we think may want to play along!

Shellie's goal...

Shellie posted this as a comment to my 1st post.. I'm re-posting it so all can see it easier!

Shellie said...

All right girls....here we go!!!!

I've got 11 pounds and about three inches to loose off my waist.

My goal: to look totally hot by summer!

Action: Only one dessert a week for THE WHOLE YEAR, and exercise at least four times a week for 20 minutes. Whew! Holidays are exceptions (Only immediate family's birthdays count) and off I go!

Teri's Plan

Way to go Steff for having us write out our plan. Having an actual plan will probably be good for me.

Goals: Increased energy and a physically fit physique (I want to see some defined muscles!).

How am I going to do this?
  1. Eat more whole, raw or fresh foods (5 servings a day)
  2. Drink at least 8-10 cups of water a day (keep track)
  3. Exercise 4 days a week for 30min to an hour
  4. Eat smaller portions, be careful about snacks
  5. Weigh in once a week to keep track of my progress
If all I get out of this is more energy and stronger muscles, I'm totally fine with that, but losing a little weight would be super!

That is pretty much my plan sista's! Can't wait to hear yours!

I'm excited about 2011, it's going to be a really awesome year! Mini Triathlon?

-Teri

P.S. I changed the name of the blog, cause Shellie called this morning and asked if we'd named it yet cause she had a great one! We had a good laugh and decided we love "Our Tiny Hiney's". I was able to change the blogger address too.

Also, I put the link to the website Steff found just to the right, under Handy Links, so it's easy to find.

Also #2; How would you like this blog to be viewed? Do you mind if everyone can read/find it or do you want it to be viewed by invitation only? I don't mind either way?

The reason behind it all...

Hello all! Welcome to Losing Lassies!

I know most of us are always thinking about losing at least a 'bit' of weight, but its so easy to just think about it without taking any actual "action". I came up with the idea a couple of weeks ago that creating a blog about my weight loss goals, food habits, etc. might actually make me focus more on actually taking action towards weigh loss, food management, and all the other fun associated with reaching and maintaining a healthy weight. Then I had an 'a-ha!' moment when I realized that if I invited all my sisters, sisters in-law, mother, and whoever else might benefit, to join the blog that I might act/react even better because now I theoretically have peers checking in on my goals and progress! Someone to hold me accountable! I might actually lose some weight!

So that is the reason Losing Lassies was created (Thank you Shellie for the name! And thank you Teri for setting up the blog!). Now it's time for everyone to start posting what their individual goals/plans are, and how you plan to accomplish them.

Also, I found the nutritional website I used to use during college that was awesome! It helps you track your daily food intake, calories, etc. Also shows you what you are lacking and should be adding to your diet. The website is:

http://www.mypyramidtracker.gov

Go sign up and play with it a bit... great tool to use!
